News: Method development for the analysis of cationization agents and their reaction products
With the amendment of Recommendation XXXVI, new limit values were included for some additives, especially for the starch ethers, for the cationization reagents 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyltrimethyl-ammonium chloride (CAS 3327-22-8) and glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride (CAS 3033-77-0) used for the manufacture as well as the reaction products 2,3-dihydroxy-N,N,N-trimethyl-1-propanaminium chloride (CAS 34004-36-9) and (1E)-3-hydroxy-N,N,N-trimethyl-1-propen-1-aminium chloride (CAS 91725-36-9).
Therefore, we have developed a corresponding test method for our customers in the field of conformity analysis of paper and tissue products for Recommendation XXXVI.
If additives are used which require this analysis, we will of course perform this test without additional commissioning by the customers. As alternative, we can of course carry out this test separately upon request.

News: New ion source technology enhances analytical possibilities of ISEGA
Our institute now has a new ion source technology of the type DBDI (Dielectric Barrier Discharge Ionization) for the use in our high-resolution mass spectrometers – specifically the model SICRIT from the successful start-up Plasmion. This technology amplifies the established API-ionization techniques, such as ESI and APCI and significantly enhances the spectrum of detectable substances in the LC-HRMS-analytic.
Additionally, the use of this source enables a clearer identification of the analyts detected and thus offers a more exact analysis of both IAS and NIAS. The improved ionization of less polar or non-ionizable compounds, such as perfluorinated alkanes, functional acrylate monomers and siloxanes, which cannot or only insufficiently be detected with traditional techniques is an important factor.
With this enhancement we continue our aspiration to always provide the most modern analytical methods – for a maximum product security and transparency in the evaluation of materials.
In case of specific questions with regards to the analysis of your products, among others in the sector of food contact materials and consumer goods in general, please get in touch with your ISEGA contact person.-

News: Unfair advertising with our certificates
Recently, we have been made aware of a reference to one of our certificates made by the company C&T Matrix regarding the use of the product Speed X for direct contact with food. We demanded of them to desist, but to no avail. We have not performed any corresponding examination for the company C&T Matrix and, thus, neither evaluated nor certified their product with regards to the direct contact with food. We expressly caution you against the use of said product in direct food contact.

News: Inclusion of sensitizers in our routine testing scope for paper and board
With the upcoming revision of Recommendation XXXVI, additional limitations will be imposed on components in recovered fibres intended to be used as raw material for paper. Among these are the modern colour developers or classic ones such as Bisphenol S. Consequently, we have widened the scope of our analysis method for establishing compliance with Recommendation XXXVI for our clients.
This new analysis scope will be applied automatically; our clients do not have to expressly order the new scope. In the field of the monitoring recycling contaminants, we are also covering the components EDAB and EHDAB, which have been limited in France for some time.
Feel free to contact your project managers for more information! -

Messages: ISEGA supports you on your way towards the BPI compostable label
ISEGA qualified for a new certification program launched by DIN CERTCO and the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI). Since march 2018, we can offer you all tests required for a certification of your compostable products according to ASTM D 6400 and ASTM D 6868 for the US and Canadian market.

Messages: A picture paints a thousand words
It has come to our attention that there are flyers and websites circulating that promote their products with a "ISEGA Approved for Direct Food Contact" logo. We would like our clients and all interested buyers to note that this logo was not created or authorized by us and does not make any statment relating to our certificates of compliance or stamps. We expressly distance ourselves from this sign and do not aceept any responsibility connected to its use.
We gladly award our signet "Product Safety with Letter and Seal" for products which have been successfully certified by us. It always comes with the registered number of the respective certificate of compliance so that all parties involved can easily trace to which extent and based on which regulations the product is approved for food contact.-
Messages: ISEGA diversifies field of ecology
Controversial discussions about disposable plastic bags, increasing use of bioplastics for packaging as well as the evaluation criteria for compostable materials in general led to a rising significance of non-industrially compostable materials.
In this regard, DIN CERTCO launched the certification program 'Products made of compostable materials for home and garden composting' which is based on the standards NF T51-800 and AS 5810. In January 2017, ISEGA gained full authorization to conduct all comprised tests. -
Events: Poster Presentation at the ILSI Symposium
We will present our results on the extraction of dialkylketones as hydrolysis products of diketenes from paper and board in comparison to the migration into fatty foodstuffs at ILSI's 6th International Symposium on Food Packaging from 16 to 18 November 2016 in Barcelona. It will also be discussed how this pertains to the evaluation of migration limit values.
